Allá por abril de 2012, decidimos poner rumbo a uno de los países más diferentes e ilusionantes para nosotros: China. Se produjo una total y absoluta regresión a la infancia. Nuestras caras transmitían el entusiasmo propio de edades tempranas y las dificultades que nos esperaban apenas cobraban protagonismo en nuestras mentes. Ilusos ignorantes con una felicidad inusitada, nos disponíamos a dar un paso importante en nuestras vidas que de seguro no nos iba a dejar indiferentes. Cuando la motivación es elevada, la valentía no es necesaria. Sin saber una sola palabra en mandarín, sin trabajo y sin conocer a nadie que estuviera esperando nuestra llegada, aterrizamos en el Aeropuerto Internacional de Cantón dispuestos a adaptarnos a una de las culturas más distintas con uno de los gobiernos más controvertidos del mundo. Este libro no es en absoluto una guía de viajes, sino más bien un largo recorrido de adaptación a un escenario diferente y en ocasiones hostil que ha satisfecho nuestras ansias de curiosidad e inquietudes, así como nos ha permitido entregaros un retrato fresco de la sociedad china. También hay lugar para divertidas anécdotas que nos han ayudado a extraer conclusiones con las que, por supuesto, no esperamos que estéis de acuerdo en su totalidad. Tocamos temas como la censura, el machismo, la creatividad, la practicidad, el ocio, la filosofía oriental, la inocencia asiática, la represión emocional, la presión social y familiar, las clases sociales, los escándalos nacionales o los conflictos entre minorías. Todo ello basado en experiencias personales reales, en múltiples entrevistas realizadas a protagonistas de la compleja realidad china y en un largo proceso de investigación, tratando siempre de hacer una comparación con la sociedad occidental de la que provenimos. Hemos derribado numerosos estereotipos y confirmado otros tantos. Analizamos las situaciones que hemos ido enfrentando desde una perspectiva psicológica, no quedándonos en la mera descripción sociocultural, sino además ahondando en la mente individual de los ciudadanos sinohablantes. Para profundizar en una cultura no hay otra que introducirse en la psique de los individuos que la componen. Esta vivencia chinesca ha supuesto un torbellino de estimulación continua que nos ha alejado del letargo en el que nos habíamos introducido durante los últimos años de nuestra vida en España. Para todo aquel que se disponga a visitar o residir en esta nación, aficionado a la cultura asiática o interesado en conocer sobre el proceso de adaptación a una sociedad compleja y diferente, este libro va a ser de gran utilidad.
